The "End" Result
When it comes to parenting, I generally feel pretty confident as long as I have a plan in place for different situations. Today was one of those times where I almost went nuts because Noah threw a curve at me that I wasn't ready for. (Though, thinking back, I should have seen it coming a mile away.) Noah is at the point now with potty training that he knows not to pee in his underwear (or pull-up, or whatever we have on him). Today I put him down for his nap at 1:00, as I do everyday. It was one of those days where Riley actually went down just after Noah did, so I was eagerly trying to get some work done while they both napped. However, not long after I put him down, Noah said he had to go pee. I went into his room and helped him get off his pull-up, pee in the potty in his room, then get the pull-up back on and get back in bed. Five minutes later, he had to go again, so the above scene repeated itself, but this time I told him just to go on the potty in the bathroom. As I'm sure you've guessed by now, this became a new little ritual. Of course, each time Noah sat on the potty he got out a squirt of pee, at best. I was torn about what to do. On one hand, we want him to pee on the potty and not in his underwear, even if he's already in bed for his nap/nighttime. On the other hand, it was obvious that this was a newly discovered "thing" and a stall tactic. After an hour of in and outs, I was at my wits end (so much for a productive afternoon!) I finally switched Noah back into his regular underwear (which he can better pull off and on himself), laid some towels on his bed, and told him if he needed to pee, then he could get up, pee, and get back in bed himself. I didn't go back in again to help him. Once things were finally quiet (around 2:30/3:00), I decided to check on him, mainly to make sure he was laying on the towels. Below is (literally) the end result of the process today.
